Free English Learning Games

English-Zone, which claims to be the best English-learner's site on the Web, provides a number of activities, games, exercises, and other resources. It has reading, grammar and fun zones, among others. The privately-owned website initially targeted students and teachers of the English language, but has expanded to include native English speakers as well. The family-friendly site received Golden Web Awards in 2003 and 2004 and also is a Net Nanny approved site.
The English Club, an online resource for learners and teachers of English, provides games, quizzes, lessons, lesson plans, chat rooms and forums. It is a user-friendly website that includes many interactive features. My English Club allows members to have a page with photos, videos, blogs and music to help them learn or teach English. Groups and communities are encouraged. The Learning English Video Project is another compelling feature. The project is a seven-part series of documentary films that capture people learning English in seven different countries.
The Internet TESL Journal
The Internet Teaching English as a Second Language Journal is a monthly Web magazine for ESL teachers that provides crossword puzzles, quizzes, tests and puzzles, among other resources. This comprehensive and practical website has been online since 1995. It boasts a growing archive of research articles, position papers and teaching tips. It presents new material monthly and accepts material from qualified contributors as well.
Elllo or English Lesson Listening Library Online, is an interactive website that focuses on English language students' listening skills. Features include Mixer Lessons, which allow students to listen to six people share their answer for a question or topic, and Songs, which allow students to listen to songs by independent artists while reading the lyrics on a computer screen. Elllo also includes videos, games and news, all interactive features that enhance students' listening skills.
