ٍSurah An-Nisa (The Women)

4:3 And if you have reason to fear that you might not act equitably towards orphans, then marry from among [other] women such as are lawful to you [3] - [even] two, or three, or four: but if you have reason to fear that you might not be able to treat them with equal fairness, then [only] one - or [from among] those whom you rightfully possess. [4] This will make it more likely that you will not deviate from the right course.

islam gives men the right to marry more than one woman,but strangley pakistani law dictates you need your firstwifes permission to marry another woman.pakistan is the only muslim country to have such an anti islamic law.
islam does not requirea man to seek permission from his wife to marry another woman.

First of all it was done by President Ayub in 1961.

Why are you forgetting that the most important condition in which second marriage can be allowed? it is the Husband should able to do ADAL between the wives

This law gives protection to first wife if she thinks that for any reason his husband won't be able to do ADAL.

This was also their to protect the exploitation by men in which they just do second and third marriage without even thinking that they can do ADAL or not.

So law says that they have to prove infront of council that they can do ADAL...........

Dear this law just protects the interest of concerned parties and it does not violate any sheri law...............

and more than that if anyone disagrees, he can go to sheri adalat or go to any mufit and take a fatwa and he can do whatever he wants..............

and what made you think that agreeing with this law would make PAKISTAN a ISLAMIC country.......? Is this law preventing us to become a ISLAMIC state.................... ...?

Sura Nissa
1- O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, His mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women;- reverence Allah, through whom ye demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (That bore you): for Allah ever watches over you.
2- To orphans restore their property (When they reach their age), nor substitute (your) worthless things for (their) good ones; and devour not their substance (by mixing it up) with your own. For this is indeed a great sin.
3- If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice.

i think to marry more than one woman a man must be quite tuff and ruthless.wives sometimes need a controlling.

As-Salaam Alaykum all.

It seems that some members of this board did not read the matter under the subject which, in fact, is the translation of the verse of the Holy Quran. It is again quoted by Inam and explained.

What I intended here was to clear the misconception about the four marriages in Isalm. Islam does not allow injustice to anyone. It emphasizes equal respect to all - irrespective of gender. It does not permit and does not tolerate under any circumstances to treat a female as a sex toy. On the contrary, Islam has clearly laid down the conditions and circumstances under which one should marry and all these conditions are to protect both the genders.

There is a hadith where prophet Mohammad (PBUH) asks young men to marry as soon as they are capable (to support a family) else they should fast often. This is to protect a man from being distracted.

Similarly there are instances when a female is left all alone by herself. It may be due to loss of parents, loss of husband, etc. Now this orphaned, or divorced, or widowed female would need proper shelter which the society is unable to provide. She may be very bold, may be very higly educated or may be financially very strong, but despite all that she can still be a victim of preying eyes. Now this is where Islam allows men to marry more than one woman, provided he can support and treat them equally. Make it very clear to yourselves that Islam does not allow more than one marriage out of lust. It does not allow single men to mingle with single women beyond certain limits. It does not allow the living together of unmarried couple, which has been quite popular in the scandinavian countries and is spreading to other parts of Europe and Americas. This is one big reason why we find so many single mothers in the west but none among the followers of the teachings of Islam.

I hope I have clarified the minsconception(s) on the subject. If anyone of you wants to know more about it, I am willing to provide as much information as I can about the laws and teachings of Islam.
